Former AVB Player Impresses with BlueSox

Brian YouchakBrian Youchak, for several seasons a standout outfielder with Allegheny Valley Baseball, is making a significant impact for the Butler (PA) BlueSox of the Prospect League (formerly, the Frontier Professional League). Youchak is doing for the BlueSox what he does best for his Johns Hopkins University team — HIT! To date, he’s batting .400, with 12 RBI and a .596 slugging percentage in just 17 games. All of us affiliated with AVB wish Brian much good fortune with the BlueSox.

WIDE OPEN TRYOUTS A WILD SUCCESS

Contrary to the wet weather that greeted AVB’s tryouts in May 2008, this year’s Wide Open Tryouts at Etna Veteran’s Field proved to be a great success under mostly sunny skies.

On Saturday and Sunday, May 9th and 10th, Head Coach Kevin Giza and his four assistant coaches welcomed almost 50 players hoping to make the 25-man 2009 AVB roster. Several players from the 2008 squad joined inthe tryouts, which included drills that tested speed, agility, and ability.

Coach Giza announced that the names will be posted by end of day, Tuesday, May 12th. So, to see the names of the young men who made the first round keep tuned in to this Web page. Good luck guys. Thanks for your effort!
